{"id":469,"date":"2012-06-12T17:48:12","date_gmt":"2012-06-12T16:48:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fortyfivehours.co.uk\/?p=469"},"modified":"2012-06-09T02:19:45","modified_gmt":"2012-06-09T01:19:45","slug":"lesson-19-circuits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.fortyfivehours.co.uk\/?p=469","title":{"rendered":"Lesson 19:  Circuits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Briefing<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_205\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fortyfivehours.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/G-SHWK_001.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-205\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-205\" title=\"G-SHWK_001\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fortyfivehours.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/G-SHWK_001-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"G-SHWK\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.fortyfivehours.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/G-SHWK_001-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.fortyfivehours.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/G-SHWK_001.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-205\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">G-SHWK<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Take off, turn, descend, land&#8230;&#8230;.flaps up, full throttle and repeat.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After a shocking last lesson in cross wind my notes clearly\u00a0 said we&#8217;d had some fun in crosswind.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Back flying with my &#8216;regular&#8217; flight instructor (more hours with her than anyone else, but I&#8217;ve had seven instructors to date!).\u00a0\u00a0 We&#8217;d take G-SHWK up and see how the gods of aviation felt like playing it today.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Circuits<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One general improvement to report, I no longer seem to have a map or a <a title=\"Smiley Face Covering Instruments\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fortyfivehours.co.uk\/?p=415\">smiley face<\/a> covering up all the instruments.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not going to even attempt to remember every circuit from this lesson, it&#8217;s a blur in a mad run of lessons in May (the weather turned for the better and so I was flying faster than I could stop to write it all down).<\/p>\n<p>A theme of nice circuits, really nice approaches and hard landings is occurring.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s no way I could ever put it into words for someone else to truly appreciate unless they&#8217;ve seen it first hand, but the last 50-60ft just felt too fast.\u00a0\u00a0 There&#8217;s a sort of &#8216;elbow stop rest&#8217; and I keep finding myself pulling the control column back to this point and no further, which ultimately seems to result in landing &#8220;flat&#8221; rather than with a decent flare.\u00a0\u00a0 I&#8217;m not sure if it&#8217;s just this, a subconscious fear of ballooning <em>(results in having to go-around)<\/em> or something else going wrong.<\/p>\n<p>The quest to try and figure out what I did on the first circuit lesson that was so much better just continues &#8211; oh that isn&#8217;t to say what is going wrong isn&#8217;t being explained to me.\u00a0\u00a0 Unfortunately if you could just read the book and then put the words into actions, learning how to fly would be a lot easier \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>Circuits were mixed up with a few practice emergencies and go-arounds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Another Chance to Land on the Grass<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The lesson ended with Air Traffic radioing in that runway 23 had been closed for inspection and could we land on 23 Grass?<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.we could give it a go \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Briefing Take off, turn, descend, land&#8230;&#8230;.flaps up, full throttle and repeat.
